Intuition in tarot

I’ve talked about developing your intuition as a Tarot reader for years – on the site, on my podcast, and on social media.

I believe intuition is a skill we can all develop and improve, just like a muscle. To become a competent and confident Tarot reader, I consider your intuition to be your most valuable asset.

All 78 Tarot cards can be interpreted in different ways using your intuition. You can look at a Tarot card and discover a new meaning based on your own life and experiences thanks to your intuition.

It's the way your Tarot readings go beyond standard interpretations of the cards and take on meanings that are absolutely personal and real to you.

But aside from Tarot reading, did you know that strengthening your intuition can have a tremendous impact on your daily life in other ways?

What exactly is intuition?

There are two different perspectives on intuition, both equally legitimate.

For starters, intuition is a manifestation of your subconscious mind. Consider how many thousands, if not millions, of conversations, interactions, and experiences you have had throughout your life.

No matter how long you have lived or how good your memory is, you will never be able to remember everything consciously. Most of our experiences are stored in the subconscious.

As you go through your day, the many things you do and the people you interact with trigger memories deep within your subconscious.

Even if you are not aware of it, your intuition - your subconscious - is constantly working. Emotions are linked to subconscious memories, and those emotions are linked to outcomes.

That’s why you have a “gut feeling” when something isn’t right, or when you have a sense that a person, place, or experience could lead to something amazing.

They all bring to the surface memories, sensations and ramifications that you have already experienced in some way. They reveal truths that have been buried deep in your subconscious and give you advice on what to expect in similar scenarios.

Secondly, God has given you intuition as an extraordinary gift. It is a metaphor for the energetic nature of the Universe.

It is a tunable instrument that can be used to delve into the unknown, tap into ancient collective wisdom, and provide insight into things others cannot.

For this reason, tarot readers try to strengthen their intuition; after all, the cards are just that: cards. They are not truly miraculous because they are made exclusively of paper and ink.

True magic comes from being able to apply the meanings and teachings of the suits, characters and symbols to everyday life using your own intuitive understanding, rather than just knowing what they imply based on historical information.

But first, let’s take a step back. Even if you don’t read Tarot, developing your intuition can have a significant impact on your daily life.

Highly intuitive people have an extraordinary ability to connect seemingly unrelated events in meaningful, accurate and insightful ways. – events that seem miraculous.

Your intuition can help you live a more authentic life

You rely on your own deep, natural wisdom to guide your decisions when living an instinctively aligned life. You are figuring out who you are and what you want to do with your life.

These decisions are influenced by your own intuitive and energetic responses, as well as your own ideals and inner knowing.

There will always be those who disagree with your decisions. It's foolish to try to please everyone; it will drive you crazy. No matter what you do, there will always be someone who thinks you should have done things differently.

Think how different your life would be if you made decisions based solely on your innate wisdom instead of allowing other people's ideas and beliefs to influence you.

You already have a good idea of what is best for you. You are the only one who knows what you need right now, and by understanding your feelings, you will always live according to your intuition and what feels right to you.

This doesn't mean you won't make mistakes; it's an inevitable part of life. However, they will be your mistakes, and you will learn from them. If you listen to your intuition and do what feels right to you, you will always live a true, heart-centered life.

Mistakes to avoid

When it comes to navigating or avoiding potentially risky or challenging circumstances, your intuition can help you.

At some point in our lives, we have all had a “gut feeling” about something or someone.

Have you ever been to a party and been introduced to someone who you instantly perceived as bad news?

Perhaps a friend has advised you to visit a restaurant that you know you won't enjoy.

Maybe you've thought about going there, but you're not sure if it's the right place for you.

These are, without a doubt, the most important intuitive successes. That's not to say you shouldn't take risks if you're nervous, otherwise we'd all be stuck in our comfort zones all the time!

Instead, by fine-tuning your intuition, you can detect energies and vibrations that are not in tune with who you really are or what you really want to do at this moment. You start saying no to things that don't feel right – and you may be glad you did.

We don't always understand where our feelings come from in the moment. However, when plans don't go well, you can think: “I’m so glad I didn’t go” or “Imagine if I had been there,” if you’ve tuned in and listened to your intuition.

Your intuition helps you to attend to your own needs first

If self-care is the ship, your intuition is the captain. No ship steers itself, and trusting your instincts when it comes to self-care is a good way to go.

Understanding your own needs intuitively can help you let go of the impulse to prioritize the needs of others over your own.

Pay attention to what your intuition tells you the next time you are invited to an event. Is there a huge, full-bodied “Yes” exploding inside you? Is the message conveyed in a more subtle way?

If you’re not sure whether to react to the text or grab a pen and tick “Attend” on the RSVP, trust your gut. What makes you take a deep breath? If you don’t want to say yes, what do you really need right now?

That doesn't mean you should start avoiding every social event, meeting, or date that doesn't immediately excite you. But if you feel compelled to decline this invitation, take some time for yourself, or reschedule the date after consulting your inner knowing first, that's okay, too.

“Why am I hesitating right now?” ask yourself as you tune into your instincts. First, what do I need to provide for myself?

Listening to your inner guidance system and putting yourself first will help you create more space in your life. Putting your own needs first doesn't mean you're a bad friend, family member, or partner.

If you naturally set boundaries and make space for your own self-care, you'll be able to show up for others in a much more present and healthy way. (And the Tarot Reading for Effective Communication is a great place to start if you need help communicating your boundaries!)

As a Tarot reader, mother, and business owner, I can say without a doubt that my intuition is my most valuable asset. I have spent years honing my intuitive skills.

I listen to her during Tarot readings for myself and others. I listen to my family and friends when I make decisions.
